The trouble with profiling
« on: August 31, 2014, 09:58:10 AM »
This is a better explanation of the problems with profiling than I have seen before. It's actually a debate between Bruce Schneier and Sam Harris. I'm on the Schneier side of the argument. Most people don't understand the downside of constant scrutiny by those who are little better than thugs (TSA). It sure has nothing to do with liberty; TSA is a bit more like peasants in the middle ages requesting passage ("By your leave, sire") from an aristocrat, ugh.

Excellent, and the linked material - his "Response to Controversy" holds a wealth of good thinking as well.  http://www.samharris.org/site/full_text/response-to-controversy2/
It's not that people are dumber, it's that stupidity used to be more painful.
