Hey From Virginia
« on: March 22, 2011, 04:32:44 PM »
I've been lurking here for about a month now, and thought it might be good for me to make my presence known.

I'm 15 years old and currently enrolled in public school in Northern Virginia, which is about as bad as it sounds (there may be a reason why my high school is called "Langley"). My dad is from Eastern Oregon (pretty much like Idaho with the laws of California) and is a lifelong libertarian, as is myself and (to a lesser extent) my mom. My siblings are too young to care. We've been looking around at relocating out west, and I had stumbled upon this site by doing some research for my dad on real estate on Crook County. From what I've seen, it's a very nice place, and we are seriously considering getting a place out there. 6 miles from DC isn't exactly the best environment for freedom-minded folks.

We're really just looking for a nice little parcel to become self-sufficient (we have some experience with gardening and small-scale farming over here by The City That Shall Not Be Spoken Of). The only real problem with any move is that my dad's work involves a lot of international and security issues. From what I've seen, jobs involving foreign policy seem to be rather thin on the ground in WY.

Anyways, I do believe we will be heading through the area this summer so we'll be sure to check out any upcoming events during that time. I want to thank Boston and the others at FSW for providing this great resource.

Thank you and God Bless FSW!

I hear ya brother, that's why I left the Old Dominion myself. Freedom is abundant here. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome!

JCL said,

As it should be!

I like your line about being "a lifelong libertarian". All at the age of 15!

Keep up your line of thinking. Don't let anyone tell you it can't be done or that you can't be free.

I live in Crook. I love it here. Did you know that WY just passed a law that "allows" you to carry a concealed weapon without getting government permission? It's always been that way here with openly carried firearms. Compare that to the D.C. area. Of course, VA is not D.C. but I imagine the local thought process tends to bleed over from one area to another.

Perhaps you can get your parents to come out for the Jamboree?

Actually, Virginia is a little bastion of liberty just outside the Beltway.

We're working on loosening things in areas besides RKBA.

The "skools" are still a problem...I went to Fairfax while it was in hard decline.  It was quite pathetic to hear the guidance counselor brag about how great her school was!

Tell your Dad you want to homeschool.  :)

Keep in mind much of Wyoming is like eastern Oregon - too harsh to grow anything except maybe hay, if you have irrigation. It's not productive land like back east, although it can support a few cows. Think about living in a small town, at least at first, to get your feet wet.
