Survival with a Smartphone
« on: April 29, 2011, 09:55:05 AM »
Interesting article about smartphones, and their utility for survival. Makes me want to look into them more, although the tiny screens are almost worthless for my old eyes. Maybe there is a magnifier app!  :)

He forgot to mention ballistics program apps, heh. If you can run a spreadsheet, I have Pejsa's equations in one, for free.

It would be cool to have the entire wikipedia, and major survival guides, on your phone.

There is no mention here of the security shortcomings of phones. Some may have noted the articles floating around about Michigan State Police surreptitiously downloading everybody's cell phone data without any warrant, so beware...

I saw an episode of "Survivor Man" or something like that where the guy took a cell phone or camcorder and used the battery to produce a spark to set some tinder on fire. I thought that was really clever if you had no other stuff to start a fire.
